Ebony is a descriptive term that can refer to one or more varieties of dense, dark or black hardwoods. Characteristically, ebony woods have a fine, tight wood grain, that takes a very nice polish. Ebony wood can sometimes have occasional banding of dark brown and black shades, known as tiger ebony. But, these particular beads are extra special in that they carry a decorative inlay of paua or abalone shell. There is one on each side of the bead adding a beautiful touch of elegance. Since the inlay is a natural material which is hand-set, please allow for some variation. Coloring of the wood grain may also vary with the lot. Wood beads look great with a wide variety of metals. Try pairing them with semiprecious stones, shell, bone, and other natural materials. And, a bonus, the larger holed beads are perfect for crochet, macrame, and craft projects.
